Society of N-Scalers Model Railroad Club was founded in January, 1975 in Birmingham, MI with the sponsorship of N-Gauge of America.
The club developed and built 6 N-Trak modules. The first layout was an N-Trak standard display oval 8 feet by 14 feet. The club remained a 100% N-Trak club until we moved to Clawson where after a few years we decided to build our first “permanent” layout.
The clubs 2nd and 3rd layouts were located in Clawson. The 2nd had a 2 track main line in a loop. The 3rd was also a 2 track main line loop but had all new bench work.
In 1997 the club moved to the Royal Oak location. The layout was upstairs over the Eyeglass store just south of 14 mile. It consisted of a 2 track main line loop, with a single track branch line, a working passenger station peninsula. It had several working yards that could be operated separately from the main layout, and also connect to the main tracks. The layout could be switched from DC control to DCC.
In 2001 the club made the decision to take advantage of the NMRA’s Insurance program and became a 100% NMRA membership club and remains that way today.
After approximately 13 years at the Royal Oak location the layout was torn down and the club moved to our current location in Hazel Park, where we are in the process of designing and building a larger and more accessible layout.
